About the Google Chromebook

The Samsung Series 5- with the Chrome OS

Google is attempting to shake up the computer industry with its new operating system, Google Chrome. Chrome is based on cloud computing and the internet browser of the same name. So what is the "cloud" anyway?

If you have ever used Google Docs, you've used the "cloud".  You probably know that it acts similarly to word processing program installed on your computer. As you edit your document, your document gets updated via your internet connection. But, the actual file is stored on Google's servers instead of on your computer's hard drive.

The Google Chromebook is built on the principle that you will use the cloud for everything. In fact, your Chromebook wouldn't even  have a hard drive! But the question is, do people want to do everything on the cloud? The Chromebook would be good for Internet browsing. But, how many people out there want a laptop that works best on the Internet? I would want a laptop that works best on the Internet and with regular files such as pictures, documents, etc.

So, what do you think? How do you feel about relying on the cloud for everything you do on your computer?
